What a read! I finished sucking the information out of it in only two days! So I just wanted to give you guys a little synopsis from what I gathered.
The super foods, daily recommendations, and sidekicks are as follows:
- Beans. Sidekicks - All beans including: pinto, navy, Great Northern, lime, garbanzo (chickpeas), lentils, green beans, sugar snap peas, and green peas. Recommended - Four 1/2 cup servings weekly.
- Blueberries. Sidekicks - Purple grapes, cranberries, boysenberries, raspberries, strawberries, currants, blackberries, cherries, and all other berries. Recommended - 1-2 cups daily.
- Broccoli. Sidekicks - Brussels sprouts, cabbage, kale, turnips, cauliflower, collards, bok choy, mustard greens, Swiss chard. Recommended - 1/2 - 1 cup daily.
- Oats. Super sidekicks - Wheat germ and ground flaxseed. Sidekicks - Brown rice. barley, wheat, buckwheat, rye, millet, bulgur wheat, amaranth, quinoa, triticale, kamut, yellow corn, wild rice, spelt, couscous. Recommended - 5-7 servings daily.
- Oranges. Sidekicks - lemons, white and pink grapefruit, kumquats, tangerines, limes. Recommended - 1 serving daily.
- Pumpkin. Sidekicks - carrots, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, orange bell peppers. Recommended - 1/2 cup most days
- Wild Salmon. Sidekicks - Alaskan halibut, canned albacore tuna, sardines, herring, trout, sea bass, oysters, and clams. Recommended - 2-4 times per week
- Soy. Sidekicks - Types of soy including: tofu, soy milk, soy nuts, edamame, tempeh, miso. Recommended - 15 grams of soy daily.
- Spinach. Sidekicks - Kale, collards, Swiss chard, mustard greens, turnip greens, bok choy, romaine lettuce, orange bell peppers. Recommended - 1 cup steamed or 2 cups raw most days.
- Tea. Sidekicks - Tea! Recommended - 1 or more cups daily.
- Tomatoes. Sidekicks - Red watermelon, pink grapefruit, Japanese persimmons, red-fleshed papaya, strawberry guava. Recommended - one processed servings and multiple servings per week fresh.
- Turkey. Sidekicks - Skinless chicken breast. Recommended - 3-4 servings weekly of 3-4 ounces.
- Walnuts. Sidekicks - Almonds, pistachios, sesame seeds, peanuts, pumpkins and sunflower seeds, macadamia nuts, pecans, hazelnuts, cashews. Recommended - 1 ounce (handful), 5x's a week.
- Yogurt. Sidekicks - kefir. Recommended - 2 cups daily.
